I hope this message finds you well. As you all know, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, many areas in western North Carolina are experiencing significant challenges, particularly with communication and emergency response infrastructure. As we continue to assess the situation, OK TERT (Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce) was asked to deploy immediately yesterday. However, we were unable to meet the needs at that time.
TERT Teams across the US have deployed to assist local agencies in their recovery efforts. It is expected that the operational period will be extended significantly than just the initial 14-day mission request.
At this time, North Carolina has a request for over 60-TERT members as well as COM-L’s and COM-T’s. I am initiating an inquiry for ANY available personnel and resources to aid in this critical mission. This is an inquiry request only. Do not self-deploy!
It also needs to be understood that our teams must be self-sufficient. They currently have no potable water, fuel, food or lodging. We will be working with our partners regarding these needs; however, teams must understand that they must be self-sufficient at this time.
